Theater World Festival

Cusco means not only archaeology and history, but it does much more such as the Arts. One sample is the World Festival of Theatre Schools sponsored by the Unesco Chair International Theatre Institute.

This event began last night August 17 at the Temple of the Sun or Qoricancha with the play Qosqo City performed by local artists. It will last until the 20th, and it gathers artists from many countries such as Brazil, China, New Zealand, Mexico, the United States, Germany, Slovenia, Singapore, Ukraine as well as Peru.

We will have the great chance to watch plays from three well-known writers such as Federico Garcia Lorca, Eugene Ionesco and Anton Chejov. The Temple of the Sun or Qoricancha, the City Hall Theatre and Kusikay Theatre will be the scenarios of this remarkable festival.

The Temple of the Sun or Qoricancha, now the Convento de Santo Domingo: one of the scenarios of the theatre festival

Today 18, the meeting begins at 3pm at the City Hall Theatre with the play “Los Amores de Perlimplin con Belisa en el Jardín” performed by Ukraine artists.  Later at 5pm, the play “Estado de Sitio” (Mexico) at Kusikay. Finally, again at the City Hall Theatre at 7pm the play “La Cantante Calva” (Slovenia).

Tomorrow thursday 19 there is one play: “La Oscura Raiz del Grito” (Peru) at the Temple of the Sun at 6pm.

On the last day the 20 you can choose three out of four plays:  “Requiem por asuntos sin experiencia” (Brazil) at the City Hall Theatre at 3pm, “Bodas de Sangre” (Singapore) at Kusikay at 5pm.
At 7pm two plays will be performed both by mexican artists at different places, so pick one: “Las tres hermanas” at the City Hall Theatre, and “De amor y Soledad” at Kusikay.

If you happen to have spare time in the middle of your tours and treks, you may want to delight yourself with this amazing world theatre festival. CU!
