Taquile: an island on Lake Titicaca

There are two ways to get to Taquile, the most visited island on Lake Titicaca. One is by boat from the port of Puno and the other by kayak from the Capachica Peninsula. Personally, I recommend the second option because it is much more fun.

Once on the island, a path carved into the hillside leads you from the dock to the main square from where you have a spectacular view over the lake. Most visitors walk around the island for a couple of hours and then return to Puno, but some arrange an overnight with family homes.

The most peculiar feature of this small island is that local men knit all the time as you will see around the main square.
